[sv]interactive]faq
Yes, people do sometimes ask questions. Here are some questions. Thing. I good English do. Stuff.
[1]why call it "sonic vegemite"?
Vegemite is a sandwich spread. Jam is also a sandwich spread. (Or, if you're American, "jelly", for some reason I haven't yet been able to fathom.)
At any rate, "Sonic Jam" is the name of a greatest hits package/3-D model test/"game" on the Sega Saturn, so I thought I'd be incredibly hilarious with a bad Australian food pun. Whoo.
[2]how can i become a hoaxer on sonic vegemite?
Simple. Make a hoax or two. Think of some funny or technically interesting ideas, grab an emulator for the console(s) whose games you'll be hoaxing from, find a decent paint program such as Paint Shop Pro, and create.
Then send it into me. Include the hoax(es), your screen name, and if you have one, your avatar (furry or nonfurry).
If it's good, (and even in some cases when it's not, as evidenced by some hoaxes on here) I put it up, and bingo! You're a hoaxer.
[3]will you ever be accepting sprite comics?
No. Although the line between hoaxes and single-panel sprite comics is becoming increasingly blurred (especially as the number of technical hoax things you can to do an early Sonic game runs dry), I'm going to try to keep the one separate from the other.
Besides, no offense to anyone, but most of the sprite comics I see... well, how can I put this politely? I've got it: I won't. 95% of all sprite comics suck hugely. And I've got better things to do with SV than
a) deal with endless streams of angry "Y U NO ACCPT MY COMIC" emails, and
b) trawl endlessly across the 'Net for those elite few that don't suck: most of whom will have their own sites anyway.
Sorry, but there it is.
[4]why are there no bad reviews on sv?
Because I review the games I own, and I only buy games I like. (If I turn out not to like them, chances are I'm not going to be particularly bothered about reviewing it anyway. Unless I absolutely loathe it, in which case I will joyously rip it apart for the benefit of my readers :P)
Besides, you could always submit a review yourself...
[5]why the vegemite section?
Because once upon a time people used to actually stumble on my site while searching for Vegemite, and I figure I should have something for those poor souls.
[6]does anyone actually use your chatroom?
No. Not yet. Be a pioneer.
[7]what cheeses me off?
Things that annoy you cheese you off. Heck, read some and get the idea yourself. If you'd like a go, fill in the submission form...
[8]will you link to me? will you affiliate with me?
I'll link to you! But you link to me first. Then email me telling me you linked. And I'll go peruse your site, and then I'll link to you if the site is good. If I don't like your site enough, I'll explain why and you can take your link to me down again.
As for affiliation: Perhaps, but your site better be really good. And you must have an 88x31 button. More often than not I'll actually apply to affiliate with you if I like your site enough rather than you approaching me, but we'll see how this thing flies.
[9]i'm from sega. can i sue you?
I'd rather you didn't. I'm just doing fan stuff here. I don't claim ownership over any Sega or Sonic properties; just the parts of the fandom I'm presenting that originated in my own fevered mind. The contributors to SV likewise. Nothing here is designed to impact on the profitability of any company in any way, so rein in the lawyers, please?
[10]my sprite/hoax/midi/walkthrough/etc. was stolen and submitted to you! what are you gonna do about it?
I hate sites that practically encourage the theft of material from other Sonic sites. Yes, Psyguy and Pachuka, I'm looking at you, you worms. Among others. I request of all contributors that they credit those whose work they have used, even if said credit does not wind up appearing on the page itself.
SV takes sprite ownership seriously, so if someone's stolen something and you have fair proof thereof, email me and tell me. If you are the insect who did the stealing, any contributions by you, whether containing stolen material or not, will be removed from my site pending talks between you, me, and the person whose work you freeloaded off.

[11]why that slogan?
You mean, "Because you already know what the games are called"? Well, quite frankly, it's because you already know what the games are called. And if you don't, there are tons of sites we all know and love that are capable of telling you. Sonic Stadium. Green Hill Zone. Sonic United. Et cetera.
If I was to put a game info section on this page, what would I do? Copy-paste from GHZ? That's a unique feature for me. What would the slogan be then? "For the exact same info you got from the other sites already"? I don't think so.
To put a slightly elitist spin on it, the slogan means "Come back and see me when you're a Sonic fan."
[12]what's the policy on midi remixes?
Basically, it's my own judgement, but my thought is this: if it's a remix designed to update an 8-bit song with better instrumentation, or to make any midi sound more like a real song, then I accept it. Other remixes are not accepted. Simple, huh?
[13]What's the big deal about image formats?
I get this one a lot, usually from people who have been derided on the MB for badly-compressed JPGs or huge BMPs. .JPG and .BMP are poor formats for use in hoaxing - BMPs are simply far too large, while .JPG's way of saving file size causes errors in the picture, especially in and around the places where colours meet. .GIFs save space by restricting the number of available colours to 256. As hoaxes on 8-bit, 16-bit and GBA games pretty generally don't need 256 colours anyway, they're usually a good choice. PNGs make for a better picture than GIFs but are slightly larger.

More as I think of them.
